Plot |
Is simple. The attention to detail
is complex. |
|
Character Development |
The way the movie is set up there
was not much time to completely flesh out individual characters. Every main
character is given a little history, but there is no change in their world views
and this is all summed up at the end of movie--a nice and powerful bookend. Even
though the background is sparse, it doesn't distract from the story. In fact the
little bits of history is seamlessly edited in. |

Acting |
Surprisingly very good. Everyone was
very believable. I didn't find a false moment. This extends to the action and
special effects that were spot on believable. |

Overview |
The continuous shoulder rocking and bouncing of the
camera was a bit too much. Some shots included quick zooms for no apparent
reasons. And many shots were fast. About 3 to 5 seconds. I typical shot would
start at someone's waist and then jerk its way up to their face. This camera
work does well in the action scenes, but elsewhere it is bothersome. The film really grabs your attention from the
beginning and doesn't let go until the end. Unpredictable, but not to a fault
like many films that try to keep you guessing only to ultimately fail when the
viewer does a little backtracking. "Kingdom" leaves the viewer to believe that
anything is possible, that death is really around any corner. What I like the
most about the film is the ending that nicely bookends, leaving the viewer with
a timely message. |
