Plot

Sonny (Kevin Costner) is the manager of a NFL team, who among other things is in charge of which players to trade and acquire. He needs to deal with his girlfriend (Jennifer Garner) being pregnant, his father’s passing and then rise to the challenge of this being one of the biggest professional days in his life that will affect many days to come for himself and everyone he works with.

Character Development

As much as I liked the acting I have to say that Sonny (Kevin Costner) character doesn’t go through any real change. First off the time frame doesn’t allow it. All the events occur in one day. Without a chance to really know Sonny it is really difficult to say where he has grown as a person. Basically this is just one busy day where a lot of things are happening.

Acting

Some truly great acting all around and there seemed to be a cast of thousands almost moving from scene to scene and from town to town. Lots of phone calls with split screen and face to face confrontations. Even with the minor roles the producers thought to go all the way with some great casting. At every turn I was not let down.

Overview

The story is solid. There are some twist and turns, but none of them are forced or don’t make sense in the storyline. But what stands out the most about this film are the clever edits that are continually use throughout the picture. The screen is split one, two and three ways and the parts are moved this way and that way. Almost to the point of distraction, yet doesn’t reach that point. I would recommend you see this film just for the editing. It is quite a feat. Only you wouldn’t be disappointed with the acting or story either.
