ALIEN: ROMULUS |
Plot |
The story starts in a place that appears far removed from any other story in the Alien Series of film, which turns out to be a brilliant idea in my opinion. We first focus on two characters. (1) is a young white woman and the other (2) a black man which automatically addresses not having enough DEI (or DIE -- that does not go unchecked with end humankind as we know it), yet this DOES NOT overwhelm the story and works in the story without overshadowing the flow in any way, though this black man might be seen as the *Magic Negro* as he, as it turns out to not human, but is a synthetic human being that turns out to be the key to everything in the story. Because there is a space station in obit that hold the cryogenic pods necessary to transport our leading characters to a paradise compared to the hellhole that they are current in. |
Character Development |
Though there is a bit of reversal of fortunes and the plot keeps you guessing into what will be the final outcome, the character development is limited, but there are a couple of nice surprises. |
Acting |
Really stellar acting, more of it was meaningful reacting to the very believable ALIEN nightmare that unfolds, but I fail to see how it could have been done any better that I witnessed on screen. |
Overview |
I always make it a point to watch the whole film, which means I stay when everyone else in the auditorium leaves and I love to honor all that made the film possible, not just the actors and the director. I listen to the score (that is where I discovered STING decades ago when I was watching the credits and listening to *Shape of my Heart* - in the film *Leon: The Professional* - after that I collected all of his music albums). In this film I saw all the digital artists that worked on the feature, within all their special effects companies. I think I counted at least 5 companies. This production is without any imperfections I could find, as the music, sound design, mise en scene, were everything that I could ask for. I cannot foresee a reason why you will not enjoy it too. |
