A song by Guns N' Roses |

Here are the lyrics: |
|
She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything
Was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that
special place
And if I stared too long
I'd probably break down and cry
Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine
She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me
of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by
Sweet child o' mine
Sweet love of mine
Where do we go
Where do we go now
Where do we go
Sweet child o' mine
|
|
On the third stanza it reads: She's got eyes of the bluest skies / As if they thought of rain / I hate to look into those eyes / And see an ounce of pain |
|
When I always listened to this song I thought what I heard was wrong. You shouldn't see rain. You should see pain. But after reading the lyrics I learned that I was wrong the whole time because it was written correctly, it just was sung incorrectly and I am the one who is in pain every time that line is played. |

Subsequently, I know it is poetic license to give the eyes sentient powers, but the windows of the soul do not in fact have souls of themselves, therefore they can emote and feel physical pain, yet they cannot think. So this is a troubled section of the song, first it sounds like “rain” instead of “pain” and then it doesn’t make logically sense. |
