Vernaculis On David Hogg |
Being victimized is a fast track to political stardom in our culture, which is why one sees so much sinister exaggeration of victimhood, or people cynically facilitating their own victimization in order to feign shock about it. No story gives credence to my theory regarding victimization and political stardom more than the quickly organized cult of David Hogg. He is a testament of this theory of mine, but this can be applied to some right-wing pundits as well (the greasy image of Laura Loom springs to mind immediately.) And it is a sort of personality worship considering CNN began to talk about how much of a travesty it was that Hogg was rejected from various colleges that he applied to. Hopefully they will report on when and if he gets a new girlfriend too. This kid is no expert on anything apart from what it's like to be a victim, but is paraded around as if he's some brand new mind on the scene saying new thins that none of us have heard before. he says things consistent with a moderately intelligent high school freshman's understanding of Civics, nothing he is saying hasn't already been better expressed, it's not like we haven't heard every single one of his arguments surrounding gun policy before, and getting emotionally moist over his words or my critique of him will not disabuse us of this uncomfortable fact. The reason a pathetic foundation of sycophants began raising up David Hogg is because of his victim status. That's it. There is something innately creepy about grown adults idolizing a teenager too and perhaps that goes to show just how infantilized the American population has become. ~ Vernaculis
