Maxwell Blue's Oubliette:

Disney Star Wars And Mickey Mouse Directors

George Lucas: He gave it and then he took it away. He should have had directors circling him at all times. That was his first mistake. But his ego wouldn’t allow anyone else to director or help write the scripts. The man can’t direct and needs a lot of help writing, more like a “writers room” amount of help. There’s no shame it. The Fans only want great films. He got by with A New Hope, but George Lucas is not an actor’s director. I heard that he only said two things on the set and when he lost his voice, the cast makes two sign, “Faster” & “More Intense.” He’s an idea man. And he had enough money to keep doing cartoons, TV shows, and movies on his own. He didn’t need to pass the torch to Disney. Where did all the time go? Empire Strikes Back came out in 1983. If he didn’t want to lose control he didn’t have to. He had all the time in the world; only we needed the best writers and directors, not Mickey Mouse ones. If he thought he was going to kick the bucket, he could have mobilized a hand-picked team of directors and storytellers. With the existing ranks of Star Wars comic book writers and novelist, you could fill the oceans. It is George Lucas own fault how things have turned out. The new trilogy is now the Crap Trilogy, far worst then the hot mess that was the prequels. Now I am seriously in the process of writing my tale; might never be a Hollywood Trilogy, but it is far more likely to restore order than Star Wars returning to A New Hope of greatness.
