The Lucas Magic?
Yes because Lucas did so well with the prequels. Cause those were 100% him and not only that but showed he didn't care about story or character development either and was more interested in the politics of that galaxy. Funny enough the only decent performances came from Ewan McGreggor (Obi-Wan) Ian McDiarmid (Palpatine) and Christopher Lee (Dooku). Two Scotts and and Englishman. Everyone else was bland, boring and uninteresting to the extreme. Except for Jar Jar and we all know what a train wreck he was. Fans went MONTHS before accepting that Phantom Menace was crap. Attack of the Clones was a complete waste of time with a whiney ass Anakin and a romance so phoned in I don't think the actors even really came into the studios. Not that you could tell given how terrible the CG was. Only Revenge of the Sith was decent but even it had crap about it.
And even the original Trilogy didn't have much in terms of story or character development either. At least not in the first one which, surprise, Lucas directed. Pretending that Lucas was what helped the franchise is laughable. As a creative consultant perhaps because I will give him credit on being a great world builder, but when it comes to character and story he really isn't that great, especially when it comes to being a director because he can't direct his actors for shit. He had AMAZING actors and intense talent with those Prequels yet none of them were really allowed to be great.
